Bring the family to celebrate DuPage County’s agrarian and equestrian heritage at the “Family Field Day at St. James Farm” at St. James Farm Forest Preserve in Warrenville on Saturday, May 26 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
During the celebration, enjoy demonstrations by riders and horses, and imagine the thrill of world-class equestrian competitions once hosted at the site. Visit a colonial-style stable and another modeled after Roman round barns. See the 1920s dairy barn that housed a state-of-the-art dairy operation and Guernsey herd that set the benchmark for Midwest farmers. Try your hand at milking cows from a visiting herd. Watch dogs and their handlers perform agility, field, and search-and-rescue demonstrations, and visit with local canine adoption groups and dog clubs. Listen to live bluegrass music. Also enjoy archery, fishing, children’s activities, pony rides for children ages 12 and under and hay-wagon rides throughout the day.
“Family Field Day at St. James Farm” is sponsored in part by Navistar. Today’s “Family Field Day” is the event formerly known as the “Homecoming Celebration.”
Reservations are not required, and admission is free of charge. A $5 per family fee applies for some activities. The entrance to St. James Farm Forest Preserve for the event is located on Winfield Road one-quarter mile north of Butterfield Road. For more on the event, call 630-933-7248.
