10 Holiday Events around Darien
The holiday fun starts Friday and continues through the month.
Friday, Dec. 2
Pizza with Santa
Chow down on your favorite food with the main man of the season. Santa will be at the Darien Park District for pictures and a pizza party. Admission includes food and drink, crafts, a bounce house and, weather permitting, an outdoor candy cane hunt. $7 for residents, $10 for non-residents

Santa Visits Oakridge Hobbies & Toys
Greet Santa as he arrives at Chestnut Court on a Darien-Woodridge fire truck for a day of pictures and fun at Oakridge Hobbies & Toys. Parents can take pictures for free with their own cameras as their kids sit on Santa’s lap and tell him their Christmas wish.
Kids Holiday Craft Workshop
Children will have the opportunity to add their own festive touch to the holiday dinner table by crafting a wooden snowman napkin holder at this free Home Depot workshop.
Sunday, Dec. 4
Cookies with Santa
Everyone knows to leave out cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve. But sometimes the guy needs a snack before the big day. He’s stopping by Our Lady of Peace School for a cookie party, games, crafts and photos.
Darien Tree Lighting
Join the City of Darien for the official kickoff to the holiday season. District 61 choirs will provide the entertainment as the tree outside Old Lace School lights up the night. Then warm up with hot chocolate while you tell Santa everything on your Christmas list.
Monday, Dec. 5
Lace Chorus Performs at Yorktown Mall
Holiday shopping is stressful. Take a breather at 11 a.m. Dec. 5 to listen to kids from Lace Elementary School sing holiday favorites at Yorktown Mall.
Tuesday, Dec. 13
Darien Chamber of Commerce Holiday Party
It isn’t every day you find a networking event featuring a party game called “Dirty Santa.” Find out what that means and rub elbows with the best and brightest of the Darien business community at the chamber’s Holiday Party at Carriage Greens’ 8700 Club.
Thursday, Dec. 15
Cass Junior High Caroling at Papa Passero’s
Haven’t had your fill of holiday music yet? I didn’t think so. Enjoy your pizza with a side of carols when the Cass Junior High chorus performs at Papa Passero’s in Westmont.
Friday and Saturday, Dec. 16-17
Darien Lions Club Food Basket Packing and Delivery
The Darien Lions will again celebrate the true meaning of the season by delivering baskets with all the fixings for a delicious holiday meal to local families in need. Join the Lions in their mission by donating nonperishable food items, or come to the Community Center to help pack and deliver the baskets on Dec. 16 & 17.
Tuesday through Thursday, Dec. 20-22
Holiday Lights Tour
Cap off the pre-Christmas fun with the city of Darien’s Holiday Lights Tour. School buses will take residents on a trip from City Hall to see each of the winners of the annual decorating contest. Hot chocolate? Lights? Making friends with a bunch of strangers on a bus? Sounds like the holidays to me.
