3 DUIs, Twice the Legal Limit and Twice the Speed Limit

SUNDAY, NOV. 11
Twice the Legal Limit
Michael P. Ortiz, 24, of the 300 block of Elmwood Road in Romeoville, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane use and disobeying a traffic signal.
Police said Ortiz was weaving between lanes at 2:09 a.m. in the 100 block of Plainfield Road and didn't stop at a red light when turning right. According to police, Ortiz had slurred speech and told police he had been drinking. A Breathalyzer test showed his blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit. He was given a Dec. 11 court date.
FRIDAY, NOV. 9
Twice the Speed Limit
Marcelino M. Ruiz, 33, of the 600 block of 65th Street in Westmont, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding, illegal transportation of alcohol and driving with a suspended license.
Police said Ruiz was going 70 mph in a 40-mph zone at 2:11 a.m. in the 8000 block of Lemont. A can of Steel Reserve beer was seen in the cup holder, police said, and Ruiz blew over the legal limit. He was given a Dec. 18 court date.
WEDNESDAY, NOV. 7
Booze and Pills Don't Mix
Matthew T. Knorps, 23, of the 8600 block of Creekside Lane in Darien, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, disobeying a stop sign and failure to avoid an accident
Police said Knorps was driving near North Frontage and Hinswood at 12:41 a.m. when his car hit a stop sign. "Knorps was observed staggering from the vehicle, almost falling over," the police report said. According to police, Knorps said he had been drinking while taking prescribed medicine. He was taken to Hinsdale Hospital for a blood test and was given a Dec. 20 court date.
