Chestnut Court Hosts Weekend of Special Events
Twelve merchants will throw a Girls' Night Out Friday, complete with music from the duo Brock and Abrams, while Frugal Muse hosts prominent authors Rebecca Makkai on Friday and Bill Press on Saturday.
It’ll be a girls’ world Friday at Chestnut Court.
The merchants in the shopping center at 75th Street and Lemont Road will be hosting their first Girls’ Night Out from 5:30-9 p.m.
Each of the 12 participating shops will have an outdoor display, weather permitting, featuring such treats as free cupcakes, chair massages and mini manicures. Many of the stores will also be offering discounts.
Live music will be provided by the duo Brock and Abrams, which comprises Mike Bruccoleri who formerly played with Herman's Hermits starring Peter Noone and Bob Abrams formerly of The Buckinghams.
“It’s really going to be a fun event,” said Frugal Muse bookstore manager Paul Garrison, who’s coordinating the night.
Rebecca Makkai, author of The Borrower, will be at Frugal Muse at 7 p.m. for a booksigning.
Poets, singers, comedians and writers are invited to share their talents during an open mic at the store from 5:30-7 p.m.
The events continue with a different kind of gathering Saturday at Frugal Muse.
Liberal commentator Bill Press is scheduled to appear from 2-4 p.m. to talk about his latest book, The Obama Hate Machine.
Garrison said the appearance came about through a long-standing partnership Frugal Muse has with the radio station WCPT.
“I thought it would be fun to have him come in and talk about how he researched his book and what he discovered,” Garrison said.
Both Friday and Saturday’s Frugal Muse events will be filmed and posted on YouTube, he said.
