Homeless to Hotel: Police Transport Man With 5 Shopping Carts of Stuff
Police found a homeless man with five shopping carts from Target wandering down Plainfield Road, and Patch readers asked what was happening.
Darien Patch reader Annette Hesson posted a photo on our Facebook page Tuesday, showing Darien police officers talking to a man standing next to several shopping carts and full garbage bags, which were stacked along Plainfield Road near Kingswood Academy.
“What is going on?” Hesson asked.
We wondered, too.
According to John Cooper, deputy police chief for the City of Darien, police were called to investigate the report of a suspicious person pushing five shopping carts down the road Tuesday afternoon.
“The subject was homeless and had some issues,” Cooper said in an email. “He wanted to go to a hotel. We tried to get him a cab, but he had too much stuff. We got a pickup truck and took him to a hotel in Bolingbrook.”
Cooper said police returned the shopping carts to a nearby Target store. The man was not arrested or charged.

This story seems to be lacking a lot of information. It leaves a lot of holes. What were in the carts? How can a homeless man afford a hotel, were the police helping him have a decent nights rest? What happened here?
