Darien Swim & Racquet Club Golf Outing Has Fun In The Bag
Local club hopes annual event is a splash.
Darien Swim and Racquet Clubboard members Jim Valenti and Tom Belczak hope the club's second annual Golf Outing on Saturday is a success for two reasons—one, to provide members with a memorable experience and two, to attract new members to the club.
Belczak has been board president for three years and said that all 15 board members work tirelessly year-round, especially in the summer, to plan enjoyable social events for all ages.
“The club isn’t just about swimming, we’re always looking for new ways to bring the neighborhood together,” Belczak said.
Valerie Karpeck may have summed up the club’s legacy best in a recent Patch interview as she recollected decades of memories as a DSRC member, saying “it’s part of the fabric of the community.”
Valenti has been securing raffle and golf prizes for the event, open to members and non-members, that begins at Village Greens of Woodridge and culminates with dinner, swimming and awards at the DSRC clubhouse at 7:30 p.m.
So far 13 foursomes have registered for the 1 p.m. shotgun start and festivities. Belczak said there is room for an additional five foursomes.
For $99, golfers have access to the practice range, play 18 holes, receive goodie bags, lunch, two hours of open bar after golf, a coupon for free weekday greens fees as well as a family-style dinner, swim and awards at DSRC.
Attendees have the option of adding guests or only attending the dinner portion of the evening. All participants are invited to enjoy the pool until midnight.
Non-members signed up to golf will receive four free family guest pool passes to enjoy during the day.
That arrangement is a great way for families to check out the facilities and meet members, Belczak said.
Main prizes so far are a Stan Mikita Blackhawks jersey, Ketel One golf bag, and donations from many local businesses, including Blueberry Hill Pancake House, Home Run Inn, Prestige Liquors, Cozzi Corner, LaVida Massage, Phillies' Pizza, Jam n’ Jelly Café and Sports Clips.
