Downers Grove South Student Commits Suicide
The name of the student has not been released.
A Downers Grove South student has died after committing suicide, District 99 released in an e-mail Tuesday.
The name of the female student has not been released, and the family has chosen to make the funeral private, the e-mail said.
All students were told of the death in their second period classes Tuesday morning. Members of our Crisis Response Team at Downers Grove South High School are available to meet with students.
"We want to take this opportunity to remind our community that suicide is a very complicated act," South Principal Stephan Bild said in the e-mail.
"It is usually caused by a mental health concern such as depression, which can prevent a person from thinking clearly about his or her problems and how to solve them. Sometimes these mental health concerns, called disorders, are not identified or noticed; other times, a person with a disorder will show obvious symptoms or signs."
If you child needs assistance or wants to see a grief counselor, you can contact the South High School Counseling Office at 630-795-8570.

How horribly sad. My heart goes out to her family and friends.
