18-Year-Old Shot and Killed in Unincorporated Willowbrook
Joshua Holmes, 18, was shot near the intersection of Honeysuckle Rose Lane and Lilac Lane at approximately 6:35 p.m. Monday night.
An 18-year-old man was shot and killed Monday night near the intersection of Honeysuckle Rose and Lilac lanes in unincorporated Willowbrook, according to a release from the DuPage County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's officers responded at approximately 6:35 p.m. to a report of gun shots being fired in the area, the release reads. The sheriff's office cites witnesses who said they saw a handgun fire several shots from a white four-door vehicle that had approached the intersection.
The victim was Joshua Holmes, who lived nearby on Honeysuckle Rose. He was transported to Adventist Hinsdale Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Holmes was scheduled for several court appearances next month. According to the DuPage County Clerk website, he was to appear in court on October 16 on charges of manufacturing/delivering Cannabis, possession of Cannabis, stemming from an arrest in Westmont. On October 10, Holmes was scheduled to appear on charges of retail theft and obstructing identification, stemming from an arrest in Downers Grove. Last year, Holmes pleaded guilty to a burglary charge, stemming from an arrest in Warrenville. As part of the deal, he was placed on probation and required to take part in the Sheriff's Alternative Work Program for 20 days.
According to the Sheriff’s department, detectives are investigating leads, and it appears that Holmes was targeted for the shooting. There is no information to indicate that the community is in danger. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office at 630-407-2400.

I don't see how this is ridiculous or how you can say it is. A Mother Lost her son
and there is nothing ridiculous about this. Young Adults lost a friend..nothing ridiculous no matter what the reason. A sad sad day for our communities.

I hate when media does this! He was still someone's son, brother, cousin.... He did not deserve to die! Just becasue he had run-ins with the law.... He was only a CHILD! I'm not sure if I understand the reasoning for stating this area is referred to as "little Aftica." However I do agree that it unfortunately was a very sad event. But again I disagree; there has not been an event of the sort in this area before, so I hardly doubt that there will be many more to follow. So yes I do think you are wrong. Let's pray against there being a spirit of violence in the complex as opposed to believing this is the first of many b/c it is called "little Africa." Let's think more positively :-)

It is unfortunate that you all have to paint one picture, then go back and attempt to paint another. I am wondering who would originally supply the writer/reporter with such public information; or do you all initially search for public records? If that is the case, then it is unfair to say "we are required to report information that is public record as we get it." I say that b/c you did not "get" or receive that information by a random source, but searched it out instead. Maybe more effort should be spent on initially searching out more accurate perspectives. If you need me help in doing so going further please do let me know. I am always about positivity especially when concerning children or mourning families :-)

Tears are still runninq down my face i weNt to high skool with josh and he was truly one of a kind he always had a smile on his face no matter what he was a friendly person and i am going to miss seeing his smile and im going to miss him calling me phony and us just playing and talking like we used to do at skool R.i.P. I agree that the Darien Patch was anxious to develop a story. While "lil africa" and "what was Josh into" may of been on peoples minds - Sabrina had no regard for the victim in the story. When a person dies the Obituary does not list the deceased mistakes..it emphazises who they were and who they left behind.
It also seems to me that, she is anxious to post and doesn't check her for mistakes
beforehand. Lauren Williamson if you see this...Please get us another reporter.
I know I am upset by what Darien patch reports for while now. She just copies and pastes and doesnt get out into the community.

It's interesting that although Joe O'Donnell's name is also on the story, you chose to attack me. This is not an obituary. You'll notice it does not say obituary on top of story. It was not my call to include the court info, nor was it Joe's. More than one editor was involved in this decision. If I had no regard for the victim, I would not have gone out of my way to find people who knew him when I was told repeatedly people did not want to comment. I would not have gone to Lake Terrace repeatedly during my off time to let people know the story remembering him is up on the site and asking them to comment: http://patch.com/A-ygL3. No other media in the area made the effort. You are entitled to your opinion, and I know you are used to a certain level of customer service from when the Patch model was one editor per site. Things have changed. When you were unhappy that we did not have a full story on a Hinsdale South football game, I found someone to write about Hinsdale South football, and I did my best to provide Hinsdale South football coverage with limited resources. I have done everything I can to accommodate you. Although, I do the best I can and try to please everyone, I know that is impossible. I am sorry you are unhappy, but I am not going to spend my Saturday morning going back and forth with you on this. If you are seriously interested in helping make the site better. The author of this article owes the readership nothing more than the brutal, unbiased and emotionless truth. The idea so comments have advanced saying the author should not have reported facts of public record and material to the story in order to save face for the victim is sickening.
