Fire Guts Home on Clarendon Hills Road, 2 Cats Die

The family escaped without injury after the blaze started around 9 p.m. Thursday, fire officials said.

Fire destroyed a home Thursday on the 6700 block of Clarendon Hills Road in Darien, officals said.

All of the people inside the home escaped without injury, but two pet cats died in the blaze, Tri-State Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Jack Mancione said.

"Unfortunately, there's not a whole lot left of the house," he said.

Mancione said the fire is believed to have started on the deck around 9 p.m. before traveling to the house, but the exact cause is still under investigation.

Twenty-one area companies, including personnel from Naperville, Argonne and La Grange assisted Tri-State in extinguishing the fire.

What can we do as a community to help this family? A lot of us are aware on the hardships this family has endured the last couple of years..and would love to help them out.

21 fire departments are needed to put out a single story house fire?? Seems like overkill to me.

Sounds like Mike:
A - Weren't there
B - Don't know what you are talking about
C - Don't live next door and didn't have to worry about the fire spreading and having to wait for more companies to come in from miles away since the close resources were already exhausted
D - Don't think before you type
E - All of the above

Mr Jackson as a fire lieutenant responding to that house fire that evening actually 15 fire departments responded along with the men and woman from Tri State fire protection district who did a great job. If your a firefighter then you understand the need if your not out of those 15 fire departments there is rehab vehicle, chief officers, ambulance for rescue team for firefighter rescue ambulance for firefighter and suppression companies to rotate firefighters through my crew was rotated twice to keep firefighters fresh and rehydrated working at the fire. Alot goes into ensuring that the fire is out and everyone goes home safely so if you think its overkill i think its safe firefighting practices. So in the event of a fire isn't a good feeling to know that the resources are there within 20 minutes to ensure safety and fire protection?

Mr Jackson you are so right 21 departments for a 1200 square foot house I wish we had the money that was wasted in fuel responding to this incident. This is a case of the corruption and nepotism going on within the administration. Staff are afraid to do their jobs. They are more worried about saying. "all belted", then hooking up to the fire hydrant right in front of the house. How does a deck fire turn in a 2- 11 alarm ? They need a new board of trustee's and a chief to start. Great waste of resources , see you on the next 2- 11. This what happens when people don't care about what's going in their community.

Sounds like the fire districts/departments should be consolidated at a county-wide level.
