The Near West Lutheran Youth Foundation participated in the Bridge Communities Sleep Out Saturday last Saturday, Nov. 3.
They slept outside in cardboard boxes at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church. There were middle school and high school youth along with two adult chaperones.
They had a campfire to ward off the 30 degree temperatures (and make s’mores!), did some activities, held discussions about homelessness and what the primary causes of homelessness are.
The “sleepers” recruited sponsors to raise money for the Bridge Communities Transitional Housing Program. Information about Sleep Out Saturday can be found at www.sleepoutsaturday.org and the Bridge Communities at www.bridgecommunities.org.
NeWLYF is the combined youth group for Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Darien and Christ Lutheran Church in Clarendon Hills. Pastor Todd Napoli is the pastor at Lord of Life and Reverend John Hildner is at Christ Lutheran.
