Police: Westmont Teen Charged After Driving Car onto Darien Lawn

Police say both the teen and his underage passenger were drinking before the incident.

A Westmont teen was charged with driving under the influence after he drove his car onto the lawn of a house on the 6900 block of Richmond around 1:45 a.m. Sept. 12, said.

Nicholas S. Nelson, 19, of the 100 block of Hampton in Westmont, told officers he drove the car after drinking three beers earlier in the evening, police said. The officers said Nelson’s breath smelled strongly of alcohol.

Nelson refused a Breathalyzer test at the police station, reports said.

Police also smelled alcohol on Nelson’s passenger, Erica L. Miller, 20, of the 00W400 block of Frontage Road in Lemont, according to the report. She told police she had only drank one beer that night, the report said.

While searching Miller’s purse, the officers said they found several pills in a cellophane wrapper, one of which was clonazepam, which is used to control seizures and panic attacks. Miller did not have a prescription for the medication, police said.

Miller was charged with possession of a controlled substance and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor, police said.

Both Nelson and Miller were released to Nelson’s mother and given an Oct. 11 court date, police said.
