PREVIEW: Hinsdale Central Opens Conference Play at Unbeaten Proviso West

The Red Devils start West Suburban Silver play against a 2-0 Panthers team that has yet to allow a point on defense.

Who: Hinsdale Central (2-0) at Proviso West (2-0)

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday

Where: Proviso West High School, 4701 W. Harrison St. in Hillside

Last week: Running back Jack Adams, who missed much of the 2012 season due to injury, ran for 188 yards and a touchdown in leading the Red Devils to an ugly 17-3 win over Leyden during which Hinsdale Central committed 13 penalties and three turnovers.

The Hinsdale Central defense was stalwart for the second straight game last week. It held starting Leyden running back Mickey Gulo to negative yardage on 15 carries, and starting quarterback Michael Smith to 97 yards on 8-of-27 passing.

Proviso West last week beat Addison Trail, 25-0, for its second straight shutout to open the season, according to the Daily Herald. The Panthers beat Hubbard, 40-0, in Week 1.

Hinsdale Central head coach Rich Tarka said last week that Friday's game would be a tough one.

"They're a good team," Tarka said of the Panthers after the tough win over the Eagles. "It's probably going to be a lot like this [game]."

Last year, Hinsdale Central opened their West Suburban Silver schedule against Proviso West at home. It was a heartbreaking 30-22 loss that saw the Panthers outscore the Red Devils 23-8 in the second half.
