Study: Darien Drivers Face a Tough Commute
About 50 percent of Darien workers spend more than half an hour behind the wheel each way, according to Business Journals analysis.
It’s news to no one that commuting in the Chicago area stinks.
But now you have some hard numbers to back you up whenever you complain about drive times.
The Business Journals’ On Numbers column used U.S. Census statistics to rank commute times in 3,012 small communities across the U.S.
Darien ranked 2,588 — the bottom 15 percent — for towns with populations between 10,000-50,000, according to the study. The On Numbers rankings take into account both how easy it is to get to work, as well as how many places of employment there are within close range.
Almost 50 percent of Darien commuters spend more than half an hour getting to or from work each day, the results showed.
Roughly 19 percent of commuters spend 14 minutes or fewer on the road.
If you’re looking for an effortless commute, then pack your bags for Altus, OK. It boasts the easiest commute of towns studied, with 80.5 percent of workers getting to their jobs in fewer than 15 minutes.
