Summer Safety Tips from the Darien Police Department
As warm weather arrives, keep trouble at bay with these tips.
The following was submitted by the Darien Police Department:
As the weather is turning nice and the children are outside playing the Darien Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind our citizens of these safety tips:
Kids:
- Don’t approach a stranger for any reason
- Call 9-1-1 immediately to report the incident
- Try and remember the license plate number of any car that approaches you, but don’t put yourself in harm’s way to do it!
- Use your cell phone to take a picture of the car / person if you can
- Always tell your parent / guardian if a stranger approaches you
- Always cross the street at a corner, drivers expect to see you there, not in the middle of the street
Adults:
- Be aware of Children playing; please obey the Neighborhood Speed Limit of 25 MPH!
- Make sure that you close and lock all doors when you are leaving your home.
- Do NOT leave iPods, GPS Units, Cell Phones, other electronics, or their cradles in view in your vehicle; they are very tempting for thieves.
- Make sure that you carry your cell phone with you at all times when out in your neighborhood, you never know when you will need to call 9-1-1
- If you call 9-1-1 from your cell phone make sure that you know exactly where you are, as your call will be routed to the a sheriff’s office dispatch and not directly to the Darien Police.

Curious, IF someone is about to be attacked (example: a woman approached by a much larger man intent on abducting and raping her), and that someone is able to call 911 before/while it is happening ..... how quickly can they (she) expect Darien Police to arrive and save her??? http://darien-il.patch.com/events/town-hall-meeting-right-to-carry-firearms-7ec84644
