The Indian Prairie Public Library at 401 Plainfield Road in Darien will present a free lecture, “The Making of Downton Abbey: Setting the Scene,” from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 28.
Landscape historian Barbara Geiger will present a slide lecture highlighting the facts behind the aristocratic life featured in the popular PBS television series, “Downton Abbey.” Geiger, who specializes in late 19th and early 20th century places, teaches at the College of Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
Guests will discover why a select few families in England in the early1900s came to own so much property and why estates like the fictional Downton Abbey were so massive.
Adults may register for “The Making of Downton Abbey” online at calendar.ippl.info, by calling 630-887-8760, ext. 239 or in person at the library’s Ask Us Desk.
