UPDATE: Next Month's Veterans Parade Route Changed

The 'Walk All Our Soldiers Home' Parade will start at the Darien Community Park on Sept. 22.

There's been an update to the route originally planned for the first annual "Walk All Our Soldiers Home" parade. The parade originally was going to start at Mark Delay School, but now will start at Darien Community Park.

"We had planned to start at Mark Delay, but the police felt it would not work out for parking so, we decided to start at Darien Community Park on 71st Street and Clarendon Hills Road," said Bill Marchetti, fundraising chairman for the Darien VFW.

The VFW is looking for people who will join them in a walk-a-thon and fundraiser next month, which will raise funds to help members open a post home.

"More than 200 veterans and soldiers reside in the Darien community, but these returning heroes do not have a place to call home. Help us provide a place for these men and women who have fought selflessly for our freedom," said parade organizers in a flyer that was created to advertise the event.

The Darien City Council last Monday approved the closure of streets for the parade.

  • Bentley Avenue

Streets will be reopened by noon. Those interested in finding out more information about the parade can contact Bill Marchetti of the Darien VFW at 630-826-4761.

*Editor's Note: Patch is working on getting more information about the specific sections of the streets that will be closed for this parade and what time they will re-open.
