The forecasted snow expected to hit the Darien and Woodridge communities on Thursday evening is anticipated to be the heaviest snowfall this winter, with three-to-six inches of snow accumulation predicted.

Residents in the area can expect to see snow developing after 9 p.m. Thursday.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory, which makes sense because it’s winter—and February.

A winter weather advisory means periods of snow, sleet or freezing ran may produce hazardous road conditions and other traveling difficulties. So be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities.

The weather advisory takes effect at 9 p.m. Thursday and ends at 6 p.m. Friday. Here’s what to expect:

• A period of heavy snow is expected late this evening through the early overnight hours with snow fall rates of one inch or more per hour expected. 
• Amounts of 3 to 6 inches are expected, with locally higher amounts possible. Ice accumulations will be less than a tenth of an inch.
• Wing gusts around 30mph are expected with sporadic gusts to 35 mph.
• Heavy snow combined with gusty winds will result in visibilities of less than one half of a mile. Brief white conditions are possible through Friday morning.
• Expect a potentially hazardous morning commute due to slushy road conditions, blowing snow and low visibilities.
• Shoveling and snow removal will also be difficult given the heavy wet snow.
