A man in police custody in Bartlett may have a connection to the May 25 robbery of the Speedway on Lemont Road in Darien, Police Chief Ernest Brown said. The man was arrested in Chicago last week in the process of buying drugs, Brown said. Chicago police turned the man over to Bartlett as a suspect in a similar robbery that took place in that suburb, which is roughly 30 miles northwest of Darien. A burglar entered Jimmy John’s, 2445 W. 75th St., around 3 a.m. Friday through a hole in the wall between it and a vacant storefront, Darien police said. Officers went to the restaurant in response to a motion-sensing alarm, which the manager believes scared off the intruder. Nothing appeared to be missing. Detective Sgt. Steven Reed said at this time it is unclear how the offender got into the neighboring storefront. He declined to release any further information pending the investigation. A robber brandishing an “edged weapon” took $500 from the cash register at the Speedway at 8301 Lemont Road around 1:44 a.m. May 25, Darien Police said.  Police said the robber showed the clerk the weapon, the exact type of which is unknown, and demanded the clerk open the cash register. A Lemont man faces felony drug charges after Darien police discovered heroin in the driver’s side door of his car around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, police said.  Officers found Ryan A. A Tennessee man was charged with two felonies April 22 after officers stopped the car he was driving near 75th Street and Lemont Road in connection with a fraud in progress in Woodridge, Darien police said. Robert Anderson, 48, of the 200 block of Burning Tree in Hermitage, TN, faces felony DUI charges, as well as felony charges for driving with a suspended license. Three car burglaries and one attempted car burglary happened along a roughly 1-mile corridor of Lemont Road on April 25, Darien police said.  Burglars smashed car windows in each of the incidents. Two of the burglaries occurred between 4:15-4:35 p.m. in the XSport Fitness parking lot at 7511 Lemont Road, police said. A Darien man faces aggravated assault charges after threatening his neighbors with a knife March 31, Darien police said. Anthony M. LaMontagna, 34, of the 8400 block of Captons Lane, made the threat while fighting over access to a furnace room, police said. LaMontagna was still holding the knife when police arrived, according to the report. He suffered minor injuries during the fight.
