Julie Stone from Darien beat out hundreds of people throughout Chicagoland to be named a finalist in Panera Bread's Breaducation contest. The contest looked for aspiring chefs and foodies in Chicago and Julie filled out an essay about her passion for food. As one of only three finalists, Julie now competes in a Top-Chef-Style Bread Battle on October 1, 2011 at Le Cordon Bleu Chicago.
This Bread Battle requires Julie to incorporate a dish using Panera's Fresh Baguette and the contest will be judged by Chef'testant Tiffany Derry from Bravo's Top Chef, Tom Beckman from Le Cordon Bleu, Tom Gumpel from Panera and two other judges. Were hoping Julie can win this for Darien.

I can't believe I'm a finalist! Even if I don't win, I'll be thrilled to have had the chance to actually cook at Le Cordon Bleu!

I lost, but I really, really enjoyed it!! I was the only one who wasn't stressed out in the least. The other lady actually cried before it started, and the young man was a nervous wreck and didn't smile once until he won.
I felt like my dessert turned out just as I'd planned -- it looked and smelled delicious, so I didn't embarrass myself.
I got a great experience, lots of photos, a $100 Panera card, and a professional chef's coat and hat!!!!!!!!!
It was a wonderful day!
