293-Team National Roller-Hockey Championship Kicks Off in Darien

Here’s some of what’s going on in and around Darien for Wednesday, July 31:

·      The massive “State Wars 9,” the United States Roller Hockey Championship, kicks off Wednesday at the Darien Sportsplex (451 Plainfield Road, Darien) featuring 293 teams and nearly 3,000 players from across the nation, from the under-6 group through elite adults. (Darien also hosted the event in 2010.) The event runs from July 31 through Aug. 11 with games all day, every single day, all at the Sportsplex and all free to attend. ·      It’s the last day for 12-19-year-olds to register for Darien Idol, the DarienFest music competition. From Neighbors of Darien: “Enter online at darienchamber.com and e-mail your mp3 file to info@darienchamber.com or drop off a CD and entry description at the Darien Chamber of Commerce office, 1702 Plainfield Rd.”

·      The Woodridge Park District is hosting a free summer concert Wednesday night by Crazytalk, a new country band with five vocalists “playing the current country hits plus remakes of classic country standards.” The concert goes from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Lake Harriet (Woodridge and 71st.)
