Really?

How much is enough to play basketball for a living?

So the NBA players and owners can't come to an agreement and there is a good chance we won't have professional basketball to watch this season.

Really?  Are we really missing anything here?  I am the biggest basketball fan on the planet but I am a fan of the game of basketball and not so much of those who play it.

This is not to say that, over the years, I have not enjoyed watching certain players  play the game, such as Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Dennis Rodman, Clyde the Glide Drexler, Kareem Abdul Jabbar and even LeBron James at times, but for me it has always been about the game.  I get a kick out of watching a good pick-up game at the YMCA where players are using good fundamentals to win, mixed in with an amazing shot or pass, as much as I do watching the NBA.

Which is why this whole situtation is so frustrating for me, and I am sure for many other fans of the game of basketball.  How much is enough to play a game you supposedly love?  One-million a year? Five-million a year? Ten-million a year?  Not enough? Really?

Everyday people are losing their jobs, their homes and even their lives because of the economic situation we find ourselves in today, and these guys are complaining that they don't make enough?  Really?  This is just obscene to me.  And the fact that the media keeps beating us over the head with it is ridiculous.

Do we really need to keep hearing about this as our politicians keep telling us how bad things are, and as we keep watching the stock market plummet each day, and we keep hearing about more and more layoffs and foreclosures?  Do we really need to see these guys driving around in their Hummers and Porsches talking about how bad they feel for the fans, as they entertain offers of millions of dollars to play in Europe?  Really?  Is that who they are thinking about, the fans?  Really?

By now I would guess that pretty much everyone in the country knows at least one family that is truly struggling to get by, and these knuckleheads want us to feel bad for them because they can't make it on the millions they get to play a game that millions of us would gladly play for nothing.

As far as I am concerned they can never come back, and I won't miss them one bit.  Really!
