A Day of Art at a Country Estate

Spend a Saturday drinking in culture and history at Mayslake Peabody Estates.

Driving down Route 83 through the western suburbs, the trappings of modern life dot the landscape: shopping malls, subdivisions, strip malls, grocery stores and condo complexes, along with the occasional office building.

Imagine, though, what this area looked like 100 years ago. The western suburbs were home to country estates of many prominent capitalists during the Gilded Ages. One of those estates, the Mayslake Peabody Estate, is now owned by the DuPage County Forest Preserve District.

This beautiful estate sits on 31st Street, just west of Route 83, in Oak Brook. The property is now being used as a historic educational and cultural center. Guided tours are offered a couple of times during the week.

The Oakbrook Art League will host an art fair at Mayslake Peabody Estates on Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24. This free event will feature a variety of artistic media, including paintings, prints and more. There will also be entertainment and food.

The Mayslake Peabody Estates will be open for touring during the art fair. You can roam the mansion, view beautiful art and just drink in the culture.

While today's lifestyle demands the convenience of strip malls and subdivisions, it's refreshing that the gracefulness of yesteryear has been preserved. Don't miss this wonderful event!
