Are you ready to dash?

Runners can still register online for the 14th annual Darien Dash that springs from the blocks this Sunday, May 18.

The race starts and ends at 71st Street near Clarendon Hills Road at Dairen Community Park. The 5K and 10K portions of the Darien Dash begin at 8:30 a.m., with the 1-Mile Fun Run beginning at 8:40 a.m. Sunday.

Online registrations are being accepted up until noon Saturday, May 17.  Advance registration fees are $30 for the 5K; $40 per runner for the 10K; and $25 for the one-mile fun run.  Add $5 to the registration fee if signing up after the Saturday deadline or on race day. Runners can register online at the Darien Dash website.

All participants will receive a t-shirt, bib and race bag. (Up to 500 runners are expected to participate and t-shirts will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.) Awards will be given for age and distance categories.

Also, the school and youth organization with the most registered runners will be awarded $2,000 and $500 respectively. Runners may affiliate themselves with only one school or youth group. A minimum of 35 participants is required.

The dash runs through the scenic Hinsbrook subdivision nestled in the heart of Darien. Local police and volunteers will help runners stay on course. Race conditions for Sunday call for sunny, cool weather.

The Darien Dash is sponsored by the Darien Chamber of Commerce and local businesses. For everything you need to know before you dash, visit the 2014 Darien Dash website.

Don't forget to stop at the Darien Swim & Racquet Club afterwards for a great Pancake Breakfast. The Swim Club is located on Hinsbrook Ave which the 5K and 10K run right by it.
