Darien Candy Days Raises Money for Vision and Hearing Impaired

The Darien Lions Club will be collecting donations for rolls of candy on Friday and Saturday.

Darien Lions Club members and their families and friends will be out community-wide on Friday, October 12 and Saturday, October 13 as the Club asks local residents to support its efforts in raising funds for the vision and hearing impaired.

Club members will give away rolls of candy and accept donations for the cause.

"For more than 20 years, the people of Darien have responded quite generously, and the club has led all Illinois Lions Clubs in funds raised every year," said the club in a media announcement about the event.

While a portion of the monies collected go to support statewide programs of the Lions of Illinois Foundation, half of the funds raised stay here in the Darien area.

Nearly a century ago, Helen Keller charged Lions Club members to be “Knights for the Blind,” and the Darien Lions Club has followed through by raising tens of thousands of dollars every year for vision/hearing care, research and other community activities including its annual Halloween Party, Holiday Needy Food Basket distribution, Blood Drive and 4th of July Parade.

People can show their support by giving generously during the October 12-13 weekend or by writing a check, underwriting the cost of a box of candy, or volunteering time during the Candy Day weekend. The Darien Lions Club practices the “We Serve” motto as it continues to help out vision/hearing impaired people and needy persons locally in Darien and nearby communities.
