Bet you don't have a day named in your honor, like the Downers Grove South Marching Mustangs.
The City of Darien and Mayor Kathleen Moesle Weaver proclaimed Jan. 20 as "Downers Grove South High School Marching Band Day."
Students living in Darien represented the marching band at the City Council meeting on Monday, Jan. 20 and accepted the proclamation from the mayor. Band Director Greg Hensel also attended.
"We are extremely proud of the student musicians in the Marching Mustangs and how they continue to represent our school and our communities with excellence on a national level." said department chairman Glenn Williams. "We are especially thankful to the city of Darien for recognizing the continuing hard work of these student musicians."
In addition to the mayoral proclamation, the event will now also reside on the "Hall of Fame" wall in Darien City Hall.
Darien recognized DGS for its performance at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, and for being awarded the privilege of holding the American flag during the national anthem.
