Whether you're looking to make a difference or have some fun with the family, your better half or on your own, Patch has some great activities lined up.

Where/When: Ellie Gibbler, 1224 Plainfield Rd., Darien, Saturday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Why Go: One of a kind sparkly accessories, art and goodies await visitors in this enchanting location. Ladies: think Easter, prom, wedding and vacation season. Guys: think Mother’s Day and everyone’s favorite holiday, Just Because Day! Come early and grab a cup of joe with Mayor Weaver right next door at Celestine Spa! Children are encouraged too.

2) Earth Week 2011 Recycling Event

Where/When: Metra Lot, 101 Main St., Lemont, Saturday, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Why Go: Finally, you can clean the garage and make room for the car. Ten organizations are accepting auto fluids, electronics, batteries, documents, bicycles, prescriptions, scrap metal latex paint and more! On second thought, better go clean out that unruly basement closet too… Oh, and the pantry because they’re collecting non-perishable items. This is truly an invaluable family endeavor.

Pricing: Free, but there is a fee for paint ($2.50/gal; $8/5 gal), $10 for monitors and $15 for TVs.

3) Burt Reynolds Movie Screening and Meet & Greet

Where/When: Hollywood Blvd., Woodridge, Friday, 5:30 – 9:30 p.m., Sunday, 1 – 6:30 p.m.

Why Go: Can he still make the ladies swoon like he did in Smokey and the Bandit? Do guys still revere him from Deliverance and the Longest Yard? Will he provide as much comic relief as he did in Cannonball Run? Answer this and other significant questions when you attend a show and see him in person. Maybe you’ll check it off your bucket list. Arriving early is strongly, strongly suggested.

Pricing: $12 in advance ; ticket must be purchased for meet and greet; there is usually a $20 charge for autographs.

4) Eisenhower Junior High School Spring Craft Show

Where/When: EJHS, 1410 W. 75th St., Darien, Sunday 1-4 p.m.

Why Go: There will be 25 vendors displaying handcrafted items. Easter, Mother’s Day, Just Because Day (see activity # 1 at top)… all great reasons to get out and shop. Let the kids hand pick a gift for Mom! The icing on the cake is that this craft show raises money for the EJH Sports Booster Club, which funds sports programs that might otherwise be cut and provides essential safety equipment.

Pricing: Varies, but helping out students? Priceless.

5) The Beds Plus Prom

Where/When: Village Club of Western Springs, 4221 Lawn Ave., Western Springs, Saturday, 8 p.m. – 12 a.m.

Why Go: Beds Plus provides meals, shelter and more to our neighbors—men, women and children—in west suburban Cook County. Their fundraiser concept is great fun, with vintage apparel a must—drag out that old bridesmaid dress! They even offer cheap tux rental and retro-dresses. Relive the glory days as you bust a move (not a hip) and support those less fortunate.

Pricing: Advance tickets; $50 per person; dessert buffet, cash bar, spiked punch, Prom Photo Booth, Best Dressed Award for Prom King and Queen and extremely cool dance floor.
