From Coffee Runs to Sushi Cravings: 10 Places Open Christmas Day

You guide to finding last minute holiday essentials.

The holidays are a time of abundance and plenty, but there's always something forgotten at the last minute. Whether it's firewood, medicine, food or stocking stuffers, there's a good chance that you'll need to run at least one errand on Dec. 25.

If you find yourself in a bind on Christmas Day don't panic: Patch found 10 businesses in Darien that can fill all of your emergency holiday needs.

1.

For any household or pharmaceutical needs, the Walgreens on the southwest corner of Cass Avenue and 75th Street is a perfect place to stop. The store and pharmacy is open 24 hours and even has a drive thru to get you home quickly so you can resume your holiday fun. There's even a Red Box DVD kiosk outside for a late night family movie rental.

2.

Sudden car troubles putting the trip to Grandma and Grandpa's in jeopardy? Take it to the Phillips 66 on Cass Avenue to have it looked at by their ASE-certified mechanics. The garage will be open on Christmas Day to get you fixed up and back on the road in no time.

3.

For a family-friendly, sit down restaurant go no further than Aodake Sushi & Steakhouse, located on 75th Street. The Japanese-style restaurant is known primarily for its Habachi dishes but does offer a kids menu and vegetarian meal options. It will be open from noon to 10 p.m. on Christmas Day.

4.

Need a cozy, family-friendly activity to do after Christmas dinner? Pick up a movie at Blockbuster to keep the entire family together and entertained. The store is located on Lemont Road and will be open from noon to 10 p.m. on Christmas Day.

5.

With comfortable seating and a roaring fireplace, the Caribou Coffee located in the Market Place Plaza comes with a little Christmas touch you can enjoy while sipping some of Caribou's best. If you're on the run, they have a drive thru where you can grab a quick cup or a bag to brew after dinner at your aunt's house. The national chain also takes a percentage of every pound of coffee bought and uses the money to fund schools in coffee-growing communities, meaning you can spread the holiday spirit a little further this year. Be sure to get there between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Christmas Day.

6.

The Shell Food Mart on Cass Avenue provides a quick and easy stop for holiday essentials such as firewood, fresh coffee and candy for stocking stuffers, of course! The Shell will be open all 24 hours of Christmas Day, as it is every day.

7.

Darien Liquor on Cass Avenue is a perfect last-minute stop for all of your holiday beverage needs. They offer a wide range of wine, beer and plenty of egg nog to help you celebrate the holiday season. The store will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Christmas Day.

8.

Leave Christmas dinner in the oven too long and need a fast, filling place to eat? Try New China Buffet on Lemont Road to help save the day. They offer a wide variety of Asian dishes -- as well as pizza, french fries and chicken fingers for fickle taste buds. The buffet's open from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Christmas Day.

9.

For a fun atmosphere and good eats, TGI Friday's is the place to go Christmas Day. It's open from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. and offers an extensive menu highlighted by Jack Daniels-glazed entrees along with a full service bar after 9 p.m.

10.

Smilga on 83rd Street is a food mart and restaurant that serves primarily imported Polish dishes and ingredients. The restaurant is a nice place to grab a delicious sandwich, or you can stop in to pick up specialty ingredients to use at home. Both the food mart and the restaurant will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
