Go Inside Darien's History at Indian Prairie Library Oct. 21

The authors of the book, from the Darien Historical Society, chronicled Darien's history from the 1830s to its incorporation in 1969.

The Indian Prairie Public Library in Darien will host “Inside Darien’s History” on Sunday, October 21 at 2 p.m. featuring the authors of the newly published book Darien, Part of the Images of America Series.

Darien Historical Society (DHS) directors Dean Rodkin, Deborah Coulman, and Debra Kieras along with DHS member Mary Krekelberg authored the book, which celebrates and chronicles the rich history of Darien from the 1830s to its incorporation in 1969. The presentation will include the history of Cass and Lace from which Darien evolved, “Life at the Point” and the surrounding farms, the schools that started the districts 61, 66, 63 and 180, and renowned residents U.S. Representative Martin B. Madden and Erwin Freund. Memorabilia from the Darien Historical Society Museum will be available for viewing. There will be opportunities for the audience to ask questions and to share their memories of Darien.

Copies of the book, filled with historic photos, will be for sale with proceeds benefiting the Darien Historical Society. Free, open to the public.  Register online at calendar.ippl.info or call 630/887-8760 ext. 239.
