Pretty Piggies and a Glass of Prosecco: A Great Escape

Head to Effigy Salon in Elmhurst for some pampering, a glass of vino and artisan cheese.

Ten perfectly polished fingers and toes. A cool, eclectic ambience in a restored older building oozing with charm. And a crisp, bubbly glass of Prosecco wine.  Effigy Salon, take me away!

Sometimes a great escape is a necessary prelude to a fabulous escape. And since I'm headed to some sun and fun this weekend for business, I need to strut some well-groomed feet to complement my strappy sandals. Solution—Effigy Salon, part of the Mecca2 building in downtown Elmhurst.

The Mecca2 building has that hip, urban feeling generally only found in the city.  Part beauty salon, part wine bar, part wellness center, with an art gallery flowing through it all, this business has something to offer everyone.

Effigy Salon owner Frank Sibr got together with a couple of other local business owners when the salon was located in Lombard. The owners dreamed up a concept of combining their businesses into one building, believing that each business was complementary. When the building in downtown Elmhurst became available, Mecca2 was born.

Effigy offers a variety of salon services, such as haircuts and stylings, color and highlights, and manicures and pedicures, and even makeup applications. It hosts private events as well—perhaps a mani/pedi party for several of your closest gal pals, hosted in the private back room while you enjoy the finest in wine, small plates like flatbreads and artisan cheeses, and hip artwork.

After getting groomed, flaunt your new look at Flight 112 Wine Bar while enjoying a wide selection of organic wines and craft beers. Named one of the Top 50 Great Bars in Chicago by Time Out Magazine, it also features a comprehensive menu of small plates, delicious desserts, and gourmet cheese and meat plates. Owner Visal Kheam also books live music and can host private parties.

For an aching back, chiropractor Dr. Brian Karwowski of Park Avenue Wellness can help cure your joint ailments or offer massage therapy. Or get stretched and soothed with a Thai body massage at Blissed Out Bodywork.

And soon to come, they'll even offer MMA workouts at Mecca Fitness.

With all they have to offer, you'll find lots of reasons to escape to this cool business concept.

Nail technician Barb Juvan gave me a beautiful French manicure and soothing pedicure, as I sipped my chilled glass of wine.
