VFW Parade To Take Place Saturday Morning

The 'Walk All Our Soldiers Home' Parade will raise funds for the Darien VFW to open a post in the city.

On Saturday, September 22, the Darien VFW will celebrate its first “Walk All Our Soldiers Home" parade to help raise funds to open a VFW post home in Darien.

Veterans, boy scouts, students and members of area organizations will be participating in the parade, which also will include military vehicles.

Students at Darien schools have taken part in the the fundraising by obtaining donations for pretend bricks for the new VFW post. Donations also will be accepted at the event and are tax deductible.

The event will start with opening ceremonies at the Darien Community Park pavilion at 9 a.m., near the Veterans Memorial. Following the parade, families will be able to enjoy music, games and inflatables, and food and beverages from Papa Passero’s will be available for purchase.

Last month, the Darien City Council approved the closure of the following streets for the parade:

  • Richmond Avenue
  • Tamarack Drive
  • Seminole Drive
  • Maple Lane
  • Bentley Avenue
