Best of Craigslist: Sword in a Stone; Bears vs. Packers Chess

Check out some of the most interesting posts we found for the DuPage County area this week.

The following items and postings were found on Craigslist for the DuPage County area. Note: Patch has no control over the status of these posts on Craigslist and how long they remain available.

Sword in a Stone

From the description: “This is a real sword embedded in stone; it will not come out unless you are the one true king. Here is your opportunity to see if you will ascend to the throne.” I really can’t say it any better than that. Are you Arthur, King of the Britons? Find out with this $35 piece of tacky patio furniture from a Naperville seller.

Bears vs. Packers Chess

Some strange football formations across this chessboard—two linemen and eight running backs? I bet Robbie Gould and Mason Crosby approve, however, as this Bears-versus-Packers chessboard elevates the lonesome kickers to kings. (Hey, how often do games hang in the balance on their kicking feet?) Take the rivalry to the black and white squares for $235 out of Darien.

Kid’s Bed with Slide

Trouble getting your kid out of bed in the morning? Maybe they’d be a bit more amenable to waking up if they could—whee!—slide right out of their lofted bunk. Now they can with this (slightly scratched but otherwise fine) bed from at Westmont seller for $150. Of course, then you still have to figure out how to get them to quit playing on the slide and get to school!

Comic Debut of Venom

It took a little research to find out why this Villa Park seller’s copy of Marvel Super Heroes: Secret Wars #8 would be appraised for $210, but turns out it features the debut of the alien symbiote that would later latch onto Eddie Brock and become the classic villain Venom (and much later, help utterly destroy a film series.)  The seller is willing to cut a deal and let it go for $150.

Woods Painting on Saw

There’s something oddly dark and ironic about painting a forest scene on a hand saw, like featuring the cast of A Bug’s Life on a can of pesticide. Although, looking closely at the blade of this saw, it doesn’t actually appear to have any teeth, and the description does suggest that a buyer simply “hang [it] one your wall.” The pretty ornament is $55 out of Downers Grove.

Really, Really Cheap Restaurant?

Sure, it’s a buyer’s market for real estate, but it can’t be this bad, can it? The seller who listed this operating Glendale Heights Mexican restaurant may have made a typo when they put the price in at... $70. Bit of a bargain buy, especially when it comes with all appliances and furniture, and is “perfect for many clients,” don’t you think?
