The nation's next big country star could be from right here in Darien.
Darien native Andrew Salgado, a singer-songwriter, was recently named the winner of the Pepsi Southern Original contest, which sought to find the next big country star.
"Judges were highly impressed with Salgado’s songwriting talent, unique vocal ability, stage presence and felt he embodied a true Southern Original," according to a news release shared on Facebook.
Salgado entered his song, "My Family," and was voted to become a finalist. He was invited to the finale in Panama City Beach, FL, and went up against six other bands. Each performed two original songs for a panel of judges and a live audience.
For winning, Salgado got to open for Toby Keith, Eli Young Band and Darryl Worley at a show in Florida. He will also have a song produced by award winning producers Jim Moose Brown and Darryl Worley, a music video produced for the single and will sign a development deal with a Nashville management group.
