National Women's Health Week is a nationwide initiative that calls attention to the importance of women's health.  The theme for National Women's Health Week 2012 is "It's Your Time" a theme that empowers women to take small manageable steps to lead longer, healthier and happier lives.  The steps include encouraging women to visit a health care professional to receive regular checkups and preventative screenings;get active;eat healthy;pay attention to their mental health, including managing stress and getting enough sleep;and avoid unhealthy behaviors, such as smoking and not wearing a seatbelt or bicycle helmet.

Together with the Office of Women's Health, Curves is helping to make 1 million women healthier and stronger.  Thursday, May 17th has been proclamated as "National Curves Day", by Governor Quinn.  Curves will be giving away 1 million 30 day memberships.  All women are encouraged to stop by Curves at 2815 83rd St. in Darien.

"National Women's Health Week is important because it encourages women to take time for their health", Says Ann and Terry, owners of Curves.  "Women are often the caregivers for their families and, as a result, forget to make thier own health a priority.  With Naitonal Women's Health Week, we remind women that they, too, need to visit the doctor, make sure thier screenings are up-to-date,get active and just take time to think about their health."

National Women's Health Week kicks off on Mother's Day, May 13, and will be celbrated until May 19, 2012.  National Women's Checkup Day-- a day on which women across the country are urged to visit their health care professional-- will be held on May 14.  For more information about National Women's Health Week, please visit womeshealth.gov/whw.  To learn more about National Curves Day call (630) 910-5401.
