Probation, Work Release for Man Charged In Christmas Eve Drug Bust

Couple was charged with using heroin while kids were left in car.

One half of a married couple from west-central Illinois on Christmas Eve has pleaded guilty.

Andrew Burr, of Walnut, pleaded guilty Monday to a felony drug charge in connection to the Dec. 24 incident. As part of his plea, Burr was placed on two years of treatment-based probation and ordered to serve a 364-day work release sentence at the DuPage County Jail. He will also be required to pay $1,315 in court costs, court records show.

Andrew and Georgina Burr were indicted earlier this year on charges of possession of a controlled substance and child endangerment after they left their two children in a parked car at the Shell Station while they used heroin in the bathroom, officials said.

A witness told police the couple went into the women’s bathroom at the Cass Avenue gas station and spent about 10 to 15 minutes inside while their four- and 10-year-old kids waited inside the running car, police said at the time. The couple reportedly told police they had purchased the heroin earlier in the day in Chicago.

In Georgina Burr’s case, she was ordered this week to undergo a psychological exam to determine if she needs mental health treatment. A judge also increased Burr’s bail to $50,000 and is now requiring her to undergo random drug testing, according to court documents, which did not explain what prompted the new bond conditions to be put in place.
