Darien Chamber Helps Women 'Spring into Fashion'

The Women in Business Committee will host its first-ever fashion show Wednesday at Midtown Athletic Club in Willowbrook.

If you’re looking for ideas on how to perk up your wardrobe for spring, the Darien Chamber’s Women in Business Committee is here to help.

The committee is hosting a fashion show on Wednesday at the Midtown Athletic Club featuring warm-weather looks from Dress Barn.

“We thought it would be fun because it’s a great opportunity for women in business to network,” said Barbara Gilleece, of Barbara’s Elegant Touch Staffing, who is co-chairing the event with Kim Consentino of DeClutter Box.

Each of the models—all local businesswomen—will wear three outfits: a casual daytime look, a more conservative business outfit and an elegant evening dress. Mary Kay consultants will do the models’ makeup and will style their hair.

Dancers from Fred Astaire Dance Studio are scheduled to perform several routines throughout the show. Teachers from the studio gave the models lessons last week on how to properly walk the runway.

Guests of the show will also be treated to refreshments and have the opportunity to participate in a raffle.

This is the committee’s first fashion show, but Gilleece said she hopes it will become an annual tradition.

The best part: Ten percent of the proceeds from ticket sales will go toward Dress for Success, a nonprofit that provides business clothes and career assistance to low-income women.

Spring into Fashion begins at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Midtown Athletic Club, 215 West 63rd Street, Willowbrook. Tickets are $25 for members of the Darien Chamber of Commerce and $30 for nonmembers. For more information, visit www.darienchamber.com.
