El Puerto Serves Up Authentic Mexican Fare

Restaurant celebrated official opening with Thursday ribbon cutting.

There’s a new taco joint in town.

El Puerto Mexican Restaurant officially celebrated its opening Thursday with a ribbon cutting ceremony at its location in Chestnut Court, 7511 Lemont Road in Darien.

This is owner Josefina Gomez’s first foray into restaurants, but El Puerto’s menu is full of Mexican classics including burritos, tostados and guacamole. Gomez said her personal favorites are the tacos.

El Puerto has been serving its authentic Mexican fare since Memorial Day. The restaurant is open every day from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and also delivers. Prices start at $1.99 for tacos and extend to the still modest $11.49 for a skirt steak with an enchilada on the side.

Mayor Kathleen Weaver said it bodes well for Darien that Gomez selected the city as the restaurant’s home.

“It’s a sign that the economy is moving forward,” Weaver said. “This is the second restaurant to open in Darien in one month’s time.” Smashburger opened its doors at 2425 75th Street on May 25.
