Why did Walmart decide to turn this particular store into a Super Walmart?

“Customers have told us they want an expanded selection of fresh fruits and vegetables and produce,” Morales said. “We have a unique opportunity to be a one-stop shop for customers in Darien. We think we can be a solution.” 

Would Walmart have stayed in Darien without the tax rebate? 

City officials said Walmart representatives told them the store would leave Darien if City Council failed to approve the , which will be split between Walmart and property manager Inland Southeast Darien.

In a voicemail to Patch, Morales said, “These sales tax rebates are open to everyone, not just Walmart.” 

Patch called back asking for clarification since that didn’t answer the question, but Morales didn’t return the call.
