Indian Prairie Public Library Hosts Kids Read Events March 22

Families are invited to build a “car” and watch a “drive-in” movie at the Indian Prairie Public Library’s Kids Read events on Saturday, March 22.

During the Build-A-Car event, families will build a car out of a cardboard box for their child and leave it in a “parking space” at the library to reserve a spot for the Drive-In Movie later that evening. The Build-A-Car event will start at 10:30 a.m. and families are encouraged to bring their own box. (Participants not attending the movie can take their cars home.)

At 6 p.m., families and children of all ages, with or without a car, are invited to the Drive-In Movie presentation of The Muppet Movie (G). Hot dogs, popcorn and beverages will be served.

Both events are free. Participants can register online at www.calendar.ippl.info, by phone at (630) 877-8760 x264, or in-person at the library’s Kids and Teens Ask Us Desk. The library is located at 401 Plainfield Rd. in Darien.

The Kids Read program is a community-wide reading event for young people that mirrors The Big Read program for adults with the purpose of bringing people together to read, discuss, learn, and entertain. In this year’s Kids Read program, young readers of Go Go America by Dan Yaccarino will travel with the Farley family as they share unusual facts about all 50 states, then participants are invited to attend corresponding programs at any of ten participating libraries. For more information on the Kids Read program or The Big Read, visit www.thebigread.org.
