Join the Pages for All Ages intergenerational book discussion program at Indian Prairie Public Library

The Indian Prairie Public Library is seeking participants for its Pages for All Ages program, an intergenerational book discussion and pen pal program offered in partnership with the Rotary Club of Darien this spring.

Pages for All Ages pairs children in grades 3-6 with seniors. These reading and writing partners will choose children’s books to read, then write letters to each other about the books and how they relate to their own lives. The team will then meet to share the letters and discuss the books.

The program will begin on Monday, March 10, with a meet and greet from 4 to 5 p.m. Participants will meet their partners and get to know each other, then will select a book to read for the April meeting. Refreshments will be served.

Between meetings, each participant will read the selected book and write at least one letter to their partner about the book and how they felt about it. Participants will drop their letters in a special mailbox in the Kids and Teens department of the library.

Then on Monday, April 14, participants will meet again to collect the letters from their partner and read them together, discuss the books in pairs and as a whole group, and enjoy refreshments. The partners will also select their next book.

At the final meeting on Monday, May 12, participants will again meet to collect the letters from their partner and read them together, discuss the books in pairs and as a whole group, and enjoy refreshments. The children will then get to choose a book to keep.

“The Kids and Teens staff at the library will be on hand to suggest books that will spark intergenerational discussion,” said Monica Dzierzbicki, Youth Services Librarian. “We will also choose books that are available in large print, audiobook, and e-book formats to accommodate each participant’s preference. “

Register online at www.calendar.ippl.info, by phone at (630) 877-8760 x264, or in-person at the library’s Kids and Teens Ask Us Desk by Friday, March 7.
