Kids' Library Cards at the Indian Prairie Public Library

In preparation for its Make Some Noise Summer Reading Challenge, the Indian Prairie Public Library is hosting a special promotion for kids’ library cards in May. Children who get their first library card during the month of May will receive a specially-designed kids’ library card as well as a youth-sized book bag, sticker, and souvenir photo.

“A library card is a ticket to information and entertainment, and signing children up to use the library starts them on the path to lifelong discovery, learning, and reading,” said Indian Prairie Public Library Director Jamie Bukovac. “Children gain a sense of pride in having their own library card, which can encourage them to read more. Plus they learn responsibility by checking out and caring for library materials, and they can develop a sense of ownership and belonging through membership at their public library.”

One of the benefits of having a library card is being able to take home books, movies, magazines, and music from the library. Indian Prairie Public Library cardholders save an average of $638 a year by checking out books, DVDs, CDs, magazines and other items rather than buying them. In addition, many online resources that support learning are available to cardholders from home, such as online research materials and databases, as well as thousands of downloadable e-books, e-magazines, e-movies, e-music and audiobooks.
