Watch Walter Payton Play Quarterback

And throw a touchdown pass against the Packers!

As the Chicago Bears deal with the absence of starting quarterback Jay Cutler this season — and prepare for Monday's night's game against the rival Green Bay Packers — let's look back at Bears history and a legend who took the field in the unlikeliest of positions, calling signals behind the line of scrimmage.

In week 15 of the 1984 season, Coach Mike Ditka replaced his backup quarterback with Walter Payton. Earlier in the season, Payton achieved a major career milestone in breaking Jim Brown's rushing record. If your quarterback can't play, why not put the game in the hands of the all-time greatest runner in NFL history?

Over his career, Payton threw eight touchdown passes — an NFL record for a non-quarterback — including one in this 1984 game against the Green Bay Packers.
