Hunger Knows No Season

Rotary donates to support local food pantries

They say hunger knows no season.  They are wrong, at least in Illinois.  Summer is the season of hunger, because that’s when kids who would be getting lunch and/or breakfast at school aren’t eating there.  This puts an additional burden on low-income families, and leads to an increase in food pantry visits.

The Darien Rotary club, which exists to serve the needs of the community, has decided to help.  Working with a grant from Rotary International, the Darien club donated $1350 to two local food pantries.  The recipients, West Suburban Food Pantry and the pantry at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, will use these funds to purchase needed food items.
