Funeral Set, Investigation Continues Following Weekend Plane Crash

Victor Pantaleo, 68, of Darien, died Sunday when his single-engine plane crashed in Romeoville.

He was an athlete who loved to ski. A spirited entrepreneur and entertainer with the heart of an artist. And he was an aviator.

A funeral Mass for Victor Pantaleo, 68, of Darien, has been scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at , 8404 S. Cass Ave. in Darien. A visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at , 301 75th St. in Downers Grove.

Pantaleo died after the single-engine plane he was piloting crashed Sunday afternoon in Romeoville, near The crash investigation is being handled by the National Transportation Safety Board.

An NTSB field investigator did not immediately return calls from Patch. According to information posted on the agency's regional investigations page, the Cessna C-210 crashed at 2:49 p.m. Sunday on approach to the Lewis University Airport due to suspected loss of engine power. The flight had originated from Brookeridge Airpark in Downers Grove.

Pantaleo was airlifted to in Downers Grove and was pronounced dead shortly after 4 p.m, the DuPage County Coroner's Office said. According to the Coroner's Office, the results of Monday's autopsy will not be available for another 10 to 12 weeks, pending results of pathology and toxicology reports.

Pantaleo’s family was not available for comment. 

He is survived by his wife, Terri; his four children, Guy, Marc, Ricky and Deane; two grandchildren, Amber and Valerie; and sister, Sandra Casserly.
