Local Experts Share Suggestions for Great Summer Reading

Looking for a good book to curl up with this summer? The staff at Frugal Muse Books and The Indian Prairie Public Library have some suggestions.

Moms: employees suggest The Paris Wife by Paula McLain, a tale of Ernest Hemingway and his first wife set in 1920's Paris.

Dads: The library suggests Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand, who tells the story of Olympic runner Louis Zamperini’s experiences as a prisoner of the Japanese in World War II.

Kids: said younger kids will enjoy The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins, and the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series by Jeff Kinney. Young adults will enjoy books by Ellen Hopkins and Scott Westerfeld.

Gardeners: Indian Prairie offers a few suggestions, including Continuous Bloom: A Month-by-Month Guide to Nonstop Color in the Perennial Garden by Pam Buthie, and Illinois Gardener's Guide: Revised Edition by James Fizzell.

Beach bums: The 10th book in the Women Murder Club Series, 10th Anniversary by James Patterson chronicles Detective Lindsay Boxer’s long-awaited wedding celebration, which becomes a distant memory when she is called to investigate a horrendous crime: a badly injured teenage girl is left for dead, and her newborn baby is nowhere to be found.
