Hinsdale South Hall of Fame Inducting Former Darien Police Officer, Civil Rights Attorney

The following is a Hinsdale South High School news release:

The Hinsdale South High School Foundation is pleased to announce the pending induction of two candidates into the Hinsdale South High School Hall of Fame.

The 2013-14 inductees are Sergeant James F. Borsilli (Class of 1982) and Mr. Robert Mather (Class of 1970). The HS Foundation Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Hinsdale South High School.

Sergeant James F. Borsilli graduated from Hinsdale South High School in 1982. He attended Benedictine University graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1986. Sgt. Borsilli joined the Darien Police Department and graduated from the Police Training Institute at the University of Illinois in 1988.

As a police officer he served the community as a field training officer and as an evidence technician before serving for two years in the Detective Division. In 2002 he was promoted to sergeant and served as a Shift Supervisor, provided oversight to the department’s Auxiliary Police section and served as a department union representative.

In 2006 he graduated from Northwestern University, Center for Public Safety, School of Police Staff and Command. Throughout his career Sgt. Borsilli received numerous letters of thanks and commendation from the city of Darien, its citizens and surrounding police departments. Sgt. Borsilli passed away February 5, 2012 having faithfully served for 24 years. He is survived by family and friends, including his two sons, Nikolas and Daniel.

The city of Darien permanently retired badge #301 to honor his service, dedication to duty and willingness to sacrifice for the good of the city and its citizens.

Mr. Robert Mather graduated from Hinsdale South High School in 1970. After graduating from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a degree in social work, Mr. Mather attended law school at DePaul University where he graduated with a Juris Doctorate. Mr. Mather has been a civil rights attorney in the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice since 1984.

He is currently a Senior Trial Attorney in the Disability Rights Section. This section is responsible for the enforcement of Titles I, II, and III of the Americans with Disabilities Act. He was a member of the legal team that developed the regulations for Titles II and III of the Americans with Disabilities Act. He also served as counsel for the U.S. Commission on Education of the Deaf, and as a member of the Federal Communications Commission’s Emergency Access Advisory Committee.
