Radogno Legislation Secures Voting Assistance for Residents at Federal Veterans Facilities

Residents at Illinois' five federal veterans facilities would be ensured greater voting access if legislation sponsored by State Sen. Christine Radogno (R-Lemont) is signed into law.

Residents at Illinois’ five federal veterans facilities would be ensured greater voting access if legislation sponsored by State Sen. Christine Radogno (R-Lemont) is signed into law.

In response to concerns raised by Burr Ridge resident and Armed Forces veteran Edward McCambridge, Radogno sponsored Senate Bill 98 to provide residents at federal veterans facilities with the same voting options and assistance as residents at state veterans facilities and nursing homes.

“Mr. McCambridge approached me with concerns stemming from a conversation he had with a resident of Hines VA Hospital. While volunteering at the facility, he discovered that the veterans at federal VA hospitals do not receive the same voting assistance as residents at state veterans facilities or nursing homes,” Radogno explained.

“We must make every effort to guarantee our veterans’ voting rights are absolutely protected. Senate Bill 98 ensures that veterans at federal facilities receive the assistance they need to cast their ballot on Election Day, be it through absentee or on-site voting.”

Having been approved by the General Assembly, Senate Bill 98 advances to Gov. Pat Quinn for consideration.
