Our Lady of Peace School Walk-A-Thon Picks Up the Pace

Our Lady of Peace School Walk-A-Thon highest participation level to date.

The 4th Annual Our Lady of Peace School Walk-A-Thon hit a new stride this year with its highest participation level to date. Eighty percent of the school’s student body participated and raised more than $19,000 for charity through walking. This commitment to service and community should not be a surprise, since to date, the event has raised approximately $78,000.

Each year, four local charities benefit from this highly anticipated school event. A school pep rally kicks off the fundraiser and gives students an opportunity to learn about the charities selected for that year. Each student chooses the charity they feel most interested in helping, raises money and plays an active role in making a difference by walking.

“Your generous donation will help support the operation and ongoing development of initiatives such as our summer camp, residential services and educational efforts for children and teens," said Walter Johnson, CEO, Turning Point Autism Foundation, in a letter to the faculty and students of Our Lady of Peace School. "Thank you for being a part of our mission and for standing beside the families we serve.”

In addition to Turning Point Autism Foundation, the Walk-A-Thon benefited The Gift of Carl Foundation, Hanson Center ( a Ray Graham organization), and The Mulliganeers. Half the money raised from the event is donated to the charities based on the students’ selection and the remaining half is donated to the school. A representative from each charity was presented with a check at a special school Mass.
