Our Lady of Peace Students Excel at State Science Fair

In one of Our Lady of Peace School's best years at the State Science Fair, all eleven students attending took home high honors giving them the distinction of being among the best in the state.

Eleven Our Lady of Peace School eighth-grade students earned top awards at this year's Illinois Junior Academy of Science’s 85th Annual State Science Fair held at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign last weekend. In one of Our Lady of Peace School’s best years at the State Science Fair, 25 percent of its students earned the opportunity to attend and all took home high honors giving them the distinction of being among the best in the state. 

Our Lady of Peace School had the highest number of students at the State Science Fair from all participating schools in Darien. More than 1,100 combined papers and projects were presented and judged during the two day event. Our Lady of Peace School Pastor, Father Walter Dziordz, Principal Mrs. Mickey Tovey and junior high science teacher Mrs. Kimberly Mayer recognized this accomplishment and awarded certificates during a school Mass.

Paper Session awards received were two Silver Awards earned by Cristina Candel and John Pecora and three Gold Awards earned by Mimi Razma, Carissa Estilo, and Peyton Muehlhauser.

All six students competing in Project Session earned a Gold Award: Sarah Janek, Angela Calabria, Warren Dawes, Daniel Morefield, Erin Chorazyczewski, and Erin Menich.
