Our Lady of Peace First-Graders Make Paper, Learn About Recycling

First-graders at Our Lady of Peace Catholic School in Darien learn how to make paper

"Hydropulping" and "slurry" aren't words that are part of the average seven-year-old child's vocabulary.

Last week, first-graders at Our Lady of Peace Catholic School in Darien learned about hydropulping, slurries and more as they made recycled paper with educators from SCARCE.

Using paper scraps, water, screening, plastic molds and sponges, students made their own paper that they took home.

SCARCE stands for School & Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting
Education. They work to educate DuPage County residents on how and why to care for the earth.
