Funeral Set for Darien Woman Hit by Car

Barbara Murdza, 87, died Wednesday after being struck by a car backing out of a driveway on Roberts Road, police said.

Funeral services have been scheduled for Barbara Murdza, 87, who died Wednesday after being struck by a car backing out of a driveway on Roberts Road.

Visitation is set for 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Markiewicz Funeral Home, 108 Illinois St. in Lemont.

Funeral services will take place at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The services will lead directly into funeral mass at 10 a.m. at SS. Cyril and Methodius Church, also in Lemont. Murdza will be buried in St. Adalbert Cemetery.

Murdza, maiden name Krycka, is survived by three children, Jessie, Henry and Leo; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Two siblings, Rozalia and Bronislawa, live in Poland. Murdza's family declined to speak with reporters.

Darien police and the FIAT accident reconstruction team are still investigating Wednesday's accident. No charges have been filed, Deputy Chief John Cooper said Thursday. The police department isn't releasing any other information at this time.

"Unfortunately, it seems like it was a tragic accident," Cooper said.
